Auckland Timber Deck
Water Blasting

To Treat or Not to Treat (your Auckland deck with long term moss treatment)?

That is the question Auckland property owners consider after before a water blasting session. Usually the answer comes down to whether or not the owner is about to put the property on the market.
If you are about to get your house photographed by the real estate agent's photographer or if you are about to have an open home then you may want only a short term clean with the water blaster. If, however, you intend to keep the property you may decide on long term moss prevention treatment to keep the moss from creeping back over the coming months.

Usually I am able to water blast away all or almost all the moss. However, in cases where particularly stubborn moss won't come off I recommend the application of long term treatment to eliminate the moss thoroughly. This treatment stays in the surface and activates every time it rains.

If you are not looking for a full property service but rather water blasting and, perhaps, moss treatment for a limited area I offer a small area cleaning service too.

How I Water Blast Decks in Auckland

Elongated U Wand Motion

I water blast a deck by using a medium-spread attachment at the end of my water blasting "wand" (they really do call it that) with medium water pressure. This is not the same as when I am water blasting concrete surfaces where I use high water pressure and a more focused attachment).
I swing the wand slowly, side-to-side, so that if you were watching the movement of the tip of the water blaster from in front of me you would see an outline of a bathtub or the letter 'U' with an elongated bottom side.
Why do I sway the water blaster up at each end like this? Why not simply move back and then forth, left and then right? I do this to avoid keeping the blast focused on one point of the deck for too long - I keep the spot moving - and this is to avoid making marks or outlines on the timber. I also try to move along the grain of the timber for this same reason.
I use this technique on concrete too. Click here to find out more about my general Auckland Water Blasting Services.

By using the blending technique of the Elongated U Wand Motion I can avoid marking the timber while water blasting Auckland decks.

Cutting In

Speaking of outlines, when, in my younger days - before I knew anything about Auckland timber deck water blasting - I worked as a house painter I learned the essential trick of "cutting in" where you first make an outline around where you want to paint. The paint strokes you make inside and perpendicular to this outline disappear into it, thus avoiding the jagged and staggered appearance the end of these internal strokes would have without the outline. I have found that this cutting in trick works quite well in certain circumstances when water blasting Auckland decks.

An internal corner as seen here may require some "cutting in" when water blasting an Auckland deck or porch.
